Description	:	Merle Leroy Roland, son of William T. and Stella (Kohl) Roland, was born August 4, 1920, on a farm in Jewell County near Ruebens, Kansas. He passed away after a lengthy illness while a patient in Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 1 day. Read More	Merle Leroy Roland, son of William T. and Stella (Kohl) Roland, was born August 4, 1920, on a farm in Jewell County near Ruebens, Kansas. He passed away after a lengthy illness while a patient in Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 1 day. He attended Superior Public Schools and graduated from Superior High School. On November 4, 1942, Merle was inducted into the United States Army in Portland, Oregon. He served in the Pacific Theater as a teletype operator and was honorably discharged February 6, 1946. On June 8, 1949, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Elizabeth Swihart Coffman. They made their home in Superior, where Merle worked for Ideal Basic Industries in the maintenance department for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post, American Legion Post, Eagles Lodge #3101 and Elks Lodge #2197 all of Superior. He attended the Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepson, Jack Coffman; two sisters, Mildred Moffatt and Marie Britton; and two brothers, Kenny and Earl. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Superior; one stepdaughter, Linda Hoshaw, and her husband, Lloyd, of Wichita, Kansas; one stepson, Donald Coffman of Houston, Texas; a sister, Beulah Strnad of Superior; a daughter-in-law, Karen Coffman of Kearney, NE; six grandsons and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, February 8, 1993, at 2 p.m. from Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. Jerry Heydenberk officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Carol Shambaugh, singing "Footprints In The Sand" and "In The Garden", with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Burdette Hanson, Danny Jackson, Dennis Combs, Larry Juergens, Mike Combs and John Combs. Honorary pallbearers were Blaine Hicks, James Maley, Jerry Combs, Dwayne Bostelman and Barney Cook. Burial with full military rites by V.F.W. Post and American Legion Post of Superior was in Evergreen Cemetery near Superior. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
