Merley was born August 16, 1921 in Glendale Township, Hand County, S.D., to Calvin and Blanch (Porter) Palmer. Merley married Francis A. Johnson November 2, 1941. They lived in Miller where all three of their children were born. Frank died in 1975. She then married Lyle Droppers April 2, 1980 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is survived by one daughter, Carol (Tom) Winsell of Miller; two sons, Perry Johnson of Gillette, Wyo., and Gary Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two step-sons, Lyle Robert (Linda) Droppers of Sturgis, and Monte Gene Droppers of Sturgis; four step-daughters: Lila Rae (Larry) Wallace of Sturgis, Sandra (Daniel) Hayes of Rapid City, Arlene (Bill) Brown of Faulkton, and Loretta (Richard) Staley of Belle Fourche; three grandsons, one granddaughter, two great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two sisters and one daughter-in-law, wife of Gary Johnson. The Miller Press May 02, 2006
