Born Jan. 27, 1922, in New London, he was the son of John and Catherine Ramey Martin. On Nov. 29, 1941, he married Louise Boecker at Kahoka, Mo. Mr. Martin was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a farmer, carpenter and retired from Morning Sun Grain Co. On Nov. 29, 1941, he married Louise Boecker at Kahoka, Mo. Mr. Martin was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a farmer, carpenter and retired from Morning Sun Grain Co. He was featured in a book written by a reporter in their division titled "Today's Children." Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bernard John Martin and James Craig Martin, both of Mount Pleasant; four daughters, Patricia Dunn of Mount Pleasant, Linda Messer of Washington, Yvonne Kerr of Morning Sun and Gloria Wagaman of Livonia, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Martin of Mount Pleasant; and one sister, Mildred Martin of New London. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one son. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun. The funeral for Mr. Martin will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Edmisson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery east of Mount Pleasant. Memorials have been established for Morning Sun Ambulance or Homehealth Services.
