Dec 28, 1927 - Carroll Times - Michael Beyer died at his home, 102 North Carroll street, Thursday, December 22, 1927, after being confined to his bed for the last five weeks with illness. During the last few days of his life he had shown some improvement and the children were looking forward to a happy Christmas with him; the daughter was coming from Rochester, Minn., and the children and their families from the neighboring towns were planning on being home to enjoy the day. But their plans were broken by their father's death. Mr. Beyer had not been a well man for the last three years. In the death of Mr. Beyer another of the pioneer men of the county has answered the final summons. Mr. Beyer was one of the energetic, hard working men, who was a builder of industry. He tilled the soil, harvested the grain, and found in his life's chosen work a rare pleasure. He was sincere and honest and so pleasant in his dealings with his fellow men that he built for himself a name of honesty and kindliness, which will be cherished as a pleasant memory by his sons and daughters. Michael Beyer was born February 14, 1851, at Chicago, Illinois, and when two years old came with his parents to Clinton county, Lyons, Iowa. Here he remained until manhood and was married September 16, 1874, to Miss Catherine Wieland at that place. They lived on a farm in the vicinity of Lyons until 1886 when they moved to Carroll county and located on a farm near Mt. Carmel. A few years later they bought land three miles north of Carroll, which was their home until 1903 when they retired from active farm work and moved to their present home in this city. Twelve children were born to them and of this number four are dead, namely; Michael, Frank, Mrs. Magdalene Schroeder, and John, who preceded his father in death in February. The surviving children are Joseph of Carroll; Mrs. Frank Schulte of Auburn; George Beyer of Dedham; Mrs. Ben Schroeder, Arcadia; Misses Kate and Theresa Beyer, at home; Miss Sarah Ann Beyer of Rochester, Minn.; and Nick Beyer of Carroll. He is also survived by 41 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Beyer died in this city February 27, 1918. Mr. Beyer was a member of the Roman Catholic church, the Roman Catholic society, and the Holy Name society, and died fully fortified with the last rites of the church. Funeral services were held at the SS. Peter and Paul church Monday morning at 9 o'clock and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.
