He was born May 25, 1936 at Fort Wayne, IN to Eldon E. and Catherine E. (Yeager) Snyder, both of North Manchester. Mr. Snyder had been an Indianapolis resident since 1990, previously of North Manchester. He was a manufacturer's representative for R. Young Associates, Indianapolis, since 1988. He was formerly employed at Bender Funeral Home in North Manchester from 1961 to 1969 when he became owner, and owned the funeral home until 1985. He was a 1954 graduate of Central High School, North Manchester, Attended Manchester College, and graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1956. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren, Deming Lodge #88 F&AM North Manchester, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne, and the Mizpah Temple of Ft. Wayne. He was Past President of the North Manchester Rotary Club, Past President of the Eel River Shrine Club of North Manchester, Past President of North Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the North Manchester Economic Development Commission, Past President of Peabody Home Foundation, and former member of the North Manchester Library Board. Mr. Snyder was 1975 North Manchester Citizen of the Year; was secretary-treasurer of Wabash County March of Dimes Walk-a-thon for many years. He was involved in the Wabash County and North Manchester United Fund programs for many years. He married Judy Fleetwood Stephens Feb. 9, 1990 in Indianapolis, and she survives at Indianapolis; other survivors include his parents, E. Eugene and Catherine E. Snyder of North Manchester; a son, Mathew Alan Snyder of Indianapolis; a daugh-ter, Mrs. Vern (Betsy) Miller of Jacksonville, FL; a stepson, Christopher Stephens, at home; a brother, Patrick R. Snyder; and three grandchildren - Alexis, Maddie and Mitch Snyder of Indianapolis. Funeral services were held Friday, January 3, 1997 at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, with the Rev. David L. Rogers officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
