Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of some of her memories, but not her frequent smiles and gentle determination which made her a favorite with all who knew and cared for her. Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of some of her memories, but not her frequent smiles and gentle determination which made her a favorite with all who knew and cared for her. She is at last reunited with her loving husband and confidant of 28 years, Melvin (whom she lost in 1996); cousin, Tsuyako Hatta; her parents; and many friends and relatives who were WWII survivors and veterans. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Buhrow (Matt Abbott and Ex-Husband Brian Buhrow); her brother, Takashi (Sachiko); nephews, Hitoshi and Satoshi (Kaori); niece, Sanae; and great-niece Shiori. Michi was originally from Kyoto, Japan and emigrated to the US in 1968 and became a citizen in 1975. She imparted upon her family a legacy of non-hate and acceptance of people of all creeds and ethnicities, from her own experiences growing up in a postwar-devastated Japan. Her love of books and language served her well as a librarian at a US Naval base in Iwakuni and throughout her life. At Michi’s insistence and in keeping with interment of her husband, Mel, there will be no funeral services at her final disposition.
