Description	:	Mike E. Miner, 52, of Hiawatha, died Saturday evening, October 15, 2011, from injuries received in a car accident near Lawrence, Kansas. Mike was born at Hiawatha, July 18, 1959, one of three children of Jerry and Mary Baker Miner and lived in this area most of his life. Miner, 52, of Hiawatha, died Saturday evening, October 15, 2011, from injuries received in a car accident near Lawrence, Kansas. Mike was born at Hiawatha, July 18, 1959, one of three children of Jerry and Mary Baker Miner and lived in this area most of his life. He attended Hiawatha Schools, later graduating high school with the class of 1977. Mike joined the 2nd BN, 130th FA, Kansas National Guard of Hiawatha a short time prior to transferring to the U.S. Navy. He attained the rank of machinist's mate, working on nuclear submarines before being discharged. He returned to Hiawatha and worked with his Dad in the plumbing and electric business until he retired. Mike worked for Flentie's Implement in Sabetha a short time prior to starting Miner Plumbing and Electric which he operated until his death. Mike was a Boy Scout, Tribe of Micosay. He was a life member of Hiawatha Masonic Lodge #35, AF&AM; Mt. Horeb Chapter of Royal Arch Masons #43; Washington Council #2 Cryptic Masons; and Hiawatha Commandery #13, Knights Templer. Mike had presided over all four orders. Past DDGM of District #1, Past ADGM of District #1; present DDGHP of District #1 of RAM; Grand Guard of Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Kansas for 2011-12. Mike took an active part in all Masonic activities. He bowled in Hiawatha Leagues. His hobbies were hunting and fishing and he enjoyed watching football with his daughter Jessica. He was married to Kathy Nixon Olberding, September 18, 1985, at Reserve Christian Church. She survives of the home. Also surviving are a son Kyle of the home; a daughter Jessica Miner of Ottawa; a step-son Jeremy (Angie) Olberding stationed with the Marines in Niceville, FL; his parents Jerry & Mary Miner of Hiawatha; two sisters Mary Ann (C.J.) Breeding of Tucson, AZ; Carol (Jim) Hanrahan of Muscotah. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents Lester & Catherine Baker; Carl and Cordelia Miner. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, at the Baptist Church Family Life Center in Hiawatha with Pastor Dennis Kichler and Pastor Thomas Swafford, officiating. Interment will follow at Corneilson Cemetery, east of Reserve. Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Thursday where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 until 8 that evening.
