Description	:	LE MARS, Iowa -- Mildred Hunter, 90, of Le Mars peacefully departed this earth to be with her Lord and family Friday, June 1, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital after suffering a stroke. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Akron (Adaville), Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service... Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Mildred Grace Hunter was born Aug. 27, 1916, two and a half miles west of Le Mars, at the home of her parents, J.D. "Jack" and Amy (Brown) Tindall. She received her education in Le Mars. She graduated from normal training in 1933. She taught at Dalton School for a few years. She then attended school in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she earned her teaching certificate. On July 5, 1939, she and Ralph A. Hunter were united in marriage at her parents' home. The couple made their home in Rockwell City, Iowa, then in Maywood, Ill. In 1943, they returned to Le Mars, so she could care for her ailing mother. In 1958, she returned to teaching at Dalton School. Three years later, she was transferred to Merrill (Iowa) Grade School, and later moved to Kissinger Elementary when it was built. In 1969, she graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She began teaching at Kluckhohn Elementary in Le Mars in 1972. She mainly taught fourth and fifth grades. She retired in 1984 after teaching for 31 years. She was a lifelong resident of Plymouth County, Iowa. She attended and was actively involved in the First Baptist Church. She participated in many roles and activities at the church throughout her life. Family was a very important part of her life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, flowers and bird watching. She liked being in the country and watching wildlife. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, David Hunter and Ronald Hunter and his wife, Clara, all of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Teddy Miller of Alcester, S.D.; five grandsons, Scott Hunter, Stacy Nilles and Luke Kayser of Le Mars, Jarrod Kayser and his wife, Tiffany of Ames, Iowa, and Brett Kayser of Alcester; four granddaughters, Danielle Hunter of Tampa, Fla., Wendy Marshall and her husband, Luke of Boone, Iowa, Amy Krogman and her husband, Chris of Le Mars, and Marie Bornholtz of Ames; 17 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kira Hunter, Mercedes Draper, Ali, Hannah and Zack Marshall, Kyle, Aaron, Kelsey and Zach Nilles, Shayler Nilles, Matlyn, Kadyn and Trennan Krogman, Kelsie, Kyle and Kaden Bornholtz and Mia Kayser; a sister and her husband, Mary and Lindsley White of Santa Clara, Calif.; five sisters-in-law, Lois Tindall of Le Mars, Virginia Tindall of Tulsa, Okla., Gladys Morton of Rockwell City, Iowa, Gola Hunter of Bloomington, Calif., and Teri Tidrick and her husband, Lee of Winterset, Iowa; a special friend, Tammy Bock of Le Mars; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph on May 12, 1989; two infant daughters, Diane and Marie; a grandson, Tom Nilles; her stepmother, Ferne Tindall; her husband's parents, W.E. and Marie Hunter; four brothers, Clark, Richard, Robert and Stanley Tindall; a sister, Florence Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Robert Morton, William Hunter and Warford Johnson; and three sisters-in-law, Cleo, Mildred and Caroline Tindall. ~source: Sioux City Journal, June 3, 2007
