Daughter of William G and Nancy Harris Coop. ------------------ Aged: 3y 1m. per inscription readings made in the 1960's when the headstone inscription was much more legible than it is now. That said, there are several variations known of that attribute the date of birth to Mildred Malinda Coop. Keep in mind that there are no Iowa or Jefferson county death records for the 1860's to use as vital records as such records were not recorded until starting in 1880. Some researchers try to calculate the exact DOB from the aged information and subtract that from the DOD. However, there are variations in those calculations, and trying to pin down a specific date from a generalized "3y 1m" item might not be all that accurate. For those reasons, this memorial uses the DOB/DOD information that it does without trying to fit in with all of the variations found in Coop family history group sheets, etc. Also, although the FindAGrave cemetery listing associates this Antioch cemetery with "Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa", in reality that is not the case. Antioch cemetery is located several miles to the NE of Fairfield, well outside the city limits. Trying to associate a particular DOB/DOD location to a person using the Antioch cemetery/Fairfield association would be a research error, unless backed up with death record and/or obituary information that specifically notes Fairfield as either the birth or death location. It may well be that while a person, especially a child, was born and/or died in Jefferson county in the mid-1800's, to specify "Fairfield" as the location might not be a correct assumption to make. Something to consider, especially for the Coop family that lived in various parts of Jefferson county, Iowa. There are many Coop family members buried in Antioch cemetery, but their individual death locations are either not known or vary widely geographically. That they are buried in Antioch cemetery is a tribute to their Coop lineage.
