Milo was the oldest of seven children born to Frederick William Greimann and Eleanora (Schaefer) Greimann on the Greimann family farm southwest of Sheffield on Aug. 15, 1922. Milo lived his entire life within 20 miles of his birthplace. He was a lifelong member of Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield, where he was baptized Aug. 29, 1922, and confirmed Aug. 21, 1938. He attended Chapin Consolidated School through eighth grade. He then worked at home helping his father farm and then worked for his uncle, George Schaefer, doing farm work. Milo and Burnice “Burnie” Petheram were united in marriage in the Chapin United Methodist Church on April 15, 1951. Children born to them were Donald, Dale, Edward and Lois. He and his family were avid campers, traveling to many places in the United States. In 1947, he and brothers Lewis and Carl formed the Greimann Brothers Co., repairing farm machinery. In 1965 the company became incorporated, forming Greimann Bros. Inc. (GBI), manufacturing custom-built equipment and commercial bucket elevators and later seed plant facilities. This company became well known for its precision workmanship all over the United States. At Zion St. John Lutheran Church, he served on the church board three times and sang in the choir. A Greimann brothers quartet, (Milo, Lewis, Carl and Paul), sang at different local events. In 1985 he started building his 40-foot-long train which has been seen in parades and town events. It has been an annual ride at the Franklin County Fair since 1988. Children and grownups flock to have the eight-minute ride around the fairgrounds. Milo said, “It is for children of all ages.” Milo was a member of the Iowa and National Blacksmiths and Welders Association. In 1996 he was named“Blacksmith of the Year. He was a member of the Hampton Lions Club, serving as president. He was also a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship and the Warren Coleman Honorary Plaque. He also was a member of the Franklin County Historical Society and a year ago he was made Honorary Life Member of the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are his wife; sons: Donald (Alice), Hampton; Dale (Peggy) Galena, Ill.; son-in-law, Greg Mayne, Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn Greimann, Julie Greimann, Angela (Ben) Richter, Leslie Greimann, Stephanie (Nate) Kofron, and Ian and Elizabeth Mayne; great-grandson, Malachi Robertson; sister, Betty (Byron) Heginger; and two brothers, Floyd (Arliss) Greimann and Ronald (Laurie) Greimann, Sheffield. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Edward; daughter, Lois Mayne; and brothers Lewis, Carl and Paul. Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, 641-892-4241.
