Description	:	Milo R. Apland, age 65, of Brookings, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Milo Roy Apland was born August 28, 1942, to Will and Gladys (Abrahamson) Apland on the family farm located south of DeSmet, South Dakota, in Mathews Township. He attended rural grade school and graduated from DeSmet High School. He received a bachelor's and master's degree from SDSU. Apland, age 65, of Brookings, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Milo Roy Apland was born August 28, 1942, to Will and Gladys (Abrahamson) Apland on the family farm located south of DeSmet, South Dakota, in Mathews Township. He attended rural grade school and graduated from DeSmet High School. He received a bachelor's and master's degree from SDSU. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served as a radio technician for four years. He returned to the family farm and farmed with his dad. Milo was active in the NFO and Farmers Union. He was an active 4-H leader and was a founding member of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant Society. He was very proud to play "Pa" for many years. As a charter member of the Brookings United Church of Christ, he helped the church become established. He was a member of the American Legion in DeSmet and Brookings. On May 5, 1968, Milo married Kathleen Kaeberle. They settled on the family farm and farmed there until they moved to Brookings in the fall of 1990. Milo also served as a police officer in DeSmet, Lake Preston, Arlington, and SDSU. At the time of his death, he was working as a delivery driver for McDonald Plumbing Supply in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Apland, of Brookings; a daughter, Sheila (Gary) Apland-Ottenbacher, of Aberdeen; a son, Stuart (Melissa) Apland, of Brookings; and a grandson, William Ottenbacher. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Douglas. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the United Church of Christ in Brookings, with interment in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Oldham. Arrangements by Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
