Mrs. Minnie Shipman was born September 7, 1895 at Rural Brock, Nebraska. They moved to Superior from Nora in February of 1970 and had lived in Nora since 1920. She is survived by her husband, Chester of Superior and 1 brother, Paul Michaud of Lincoln. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, December 24, 1970 Minnie Michaud, daughter of Paul and Lena Michaud was born September 7, 1895 near Brock, Nebraska in Nemaha County. She passed away early Wednesday morning, December 23 at the Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 3 months, 2 weeks and 2 days. At the age of four years she moved with her parents to a homestead taken by her father near Verdel, Nebraska in Knox County. Later the homestead was sold and the family moved to Superior, Nebraska in Nuckolls County where they resided for about 8 years. Her mother was called into the great beyond on January 25, 1920, leaving her father and two brothers in the home, as well as herself. It was in the spring of 1920 that the family moved to Nora, Nebraska where they had purchased a farm formerly owned by Mr. Hamel. Now that they were about to get settled in their new home, and Minnie was was to accept the household duties, they soon started going to the Methodist Church and she became a member while Reverend A.C. Bates was on the charge. It wasn't long until she became a member of the Ladies Aid Society, better known today as the Women's Society of Christian Service. She served as President for six years and Vice-president for four years. She did secretarial work in the Society for 6 years and was in charge of the Sunday School Cradle Roll for a long time. On February 16, 1924 Minnie Michaud and Chester Shipman were united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage at Hebron, Nebraska in Thayer County. After their marriage they made their home on a farm near Hardy, Nebraska. They moved to the Nora Community in the spring of 1927 where they continued farming until Feburary, 1970. To this union was born one son, Max Allan, who passed away in infancy. Minnie and Chester retired from their farm in February in 1970 and moved to their present home in Superior, Nebraska. Their interest was still held in the Nora United Methodist Church where they attended regular. Minnie was very active in the Church and willing to do her part up to the time of her passing. She was chairman of the Memorial Committee and was responsible for many of our Church improvements such as remoldeling (sic) of the Worship Center and putting new carpet also new folding chairs & Church outdoor bulletin board. The past few years she was unable to do some of the things she did in the past because of her failing eye sight. She was a Charter Member of the Women's Society of Christian Service and was presented the 'Honorary Adult Life Membership Pin' and certificate during the regular meeting of the Women's Society of Christian Service on August 5, 1970. Minnie Shipman is survived by her husband Chester, one brother, Paul Michaud and his wife, Beulah of Lincoln, Nebraska, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Michaud of Superior, Nebraska and four nieces and 5 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Henry Michaud and infant son, Max Allen. Funeral services for Mrs. Shipman were held on Saturday, December 26, 1970 at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church of Nora, Nebraska with the Reverend L.A. Hansen officiating. The Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Shipman was laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.
