Williamson will officiate. Mrs. HUMPHREYS was born March 27, 1865, at The Dells, Oregon, the daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth GLEASON. She came to this county when six months of age and had lived in this community since. Mr. and Mrs. HUMPHREYS were married October 27, 1886, during a double wedding ceremony. The other couple was Cora HUMPHREYS, sister of Marvin B., and Jim MERCHANT. The wedding took place at the old HUMPHREYS home southeast of Fairfield. She and her husband lived on the farm for many years, then moved to Fairfield in 1940. She was a member of the First Christian church. Besides her husband, Mrs. HUMPHREYS is survived by the following six children: Don HUMPHREYS and Mrs. John DuBOIS, Fairfield; Mrs. Earl DANA, Ottumwa; Mrs. Ned PEQUIGNOT, Fairfield; Mrs. Jesse DAGGETT, Detroit, Michigan. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Robert JOHNSON, Winmar, California, and a half-brother, Fred HUMPHREYS, Pinesdale, California. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene, who died in 1932, and three grandchildren, Jack DANA, Jenevieve DAGGETT and Billy Jo DAGGETT. She is a distant relative of Charles G. DAWES, ex-vice president of the United States. ------ ------ Note: The following is an extract of a 1912 profile of Marvin Brownlow Humphreys. It is provided here as it pertains to their marriage, Minnie's lineage, and details about their children at that time in 1912: "On the 27th of October, 1886, Mr. Humphreys was united in marriage to Miss Minnie M. Gleason, a daughter of Martin Van Buren and Sarah Elizabeth (Dawes) Gleason. The father was born and reared in New York and came of English-Irish descent, while the mother's birth occurred in Maine in the year 1837. Their marriage was celebrated in Wisconsin in 1855. In 1859 they came to Iowa, first locating in Washington county and later in Jefferson county, where they resided for ten years. Mr. Gleason worked at the harness-maker's trade throughout his entire business career, passing away in the state of Washington, on Christmas day of 1906. The demise of his wife occurred in Pleasant Plain, Iowa, on the 9th of December, 1899. Both died of paralysis. Mr. and Mrs. Humphreys are the parents of six children, namely: Lorene, at home, who is an operator of the Washington Telephone Company at Washington, Iowa; Don A., who follows farming north of Fairfield; Bernice, who is the wife of J. H. DuBois, who is engaged in farming north of Fairfield; Bertene, twin sister of Bernice, who is the wife of Earl Dana, a farmer living four miles north of Fairfield; Mabel, a pupil in the district school; and Elizabeth, at home."
