Description	:	Minnie Pauline Huggins Gibson was the ninth and youngest child of William James Timmons Huggins and Minnie Pauline Grier Huggins. She was the grand-daughter of George Samuel Briley Huggins and Elizabeth Timmons Huggins. Losing her mother when she was only three months old, she became the jewel of her devoted father's life, being separated from him only when she was away at college. Read More	Minnie Pauline Huggins Gibson was the ninth and youngest child of William James Timmons Huggins and Minnie Pauline Grier Huggins. She was the grand-daughter of George Samuel Briley Huggins and Elizabeth Timmons Huggins. Losing her mother when she was only three months old, she became the jewel of her devoted father's life, being separated from him only when she was away at college. Immediately upon graduation, she accepted work at home where she cared for her father throughout his life, counting it a privilege which left its imprint on her appreciation of music and other arts he taught her through their close association. "Miss Minnie", valedictorian of the Hemingway High School Class of 1921 and recipient of two speech awards that year,was graduated from Winthrop College where she specialized in Elementary Education. After graduation from Winthrop, she began her teaching career in the Hemingway Schools from which she retired after forty-five years of outstanding and dedicated service. Giving of her talent in a manner that has been a credit to the school system and of untold value to the fortunate pupils who passed through her training. In 1940, the senior class, recognizing "Miss Minnie's" many contributions to the alma mater, expressed it's appreciation by dedicating to her the very first Hemingway annual to her. Her charm and personality,her loyalty and idealism and her extensive cultural background have won for her many friends. She has studied at Duke University, the University of South Carolina, Furman University and has traveled to the West Coast and Canada. She was an avid reader. She served as principal of the Hemingway Elementary School for two years, was the first president of the Hemingway Chapter of Winthrop College Daughters, was the president of the Old Johnsonville Book Club for six years and held various offices in community and civic clubs. She is known for her faithful church work, especially as a teacher of the Methodist Young Peoples Class at the Old Johnsonville Church, a church that her grandfather, George Samuel Briley Huggins had been a founder of in 1872. Among the many areas of "Miss Minnie's interests was that of gardening. She enjoyed rooting and growing flowers and shrubs. She was just as successful in this endeavor as she was in the other areas of her life. In 1942, she married Mr. William W. Gibson of Red Springs, North Carolina.
