Mona attended school in Glasco where she later became a resident for sixty-six years, and lived fifty-two of them in the same house. In 1931, she married Leo Roscoe Pitcher, and to this happy union were born three children Lewis, Robert and Nelda. For many years, Mona and her husband worked for the Glasco Schools. He was custodian at the high school, and she enjoyed working as a cook at the grade school. A kind, eager to help person, Mona made the most of her long life. She loved homemaking, raising a large garden, and baking cookies for all of her friends and neighbors. Never one to sit idle, she did alterations, and even in her late 70's, she along with her sister Viola Nowels painted trim on some houses in Glasco. Her painting skills did not stop there as Otis Hensley asked her to paint the inside of his Little America Champ Airplane for him. She preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo in 1976, one daughter Nelda Shamburg in 1992 and one son Robert Pitcher in 2000. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her son Lewis Pitcher and wife Edith of Tucson, AZ; ten grandchildren; Rhonda L. Davis, Roxie L. Simmons both of Tucson, Robert L Pitcher of Latham, KS; Nick Pitcher of Perryton, TX; Patty Kasch of Borger, TX; Peggy Sottile of Amarillo, TX; Jeff Pilcher of Fritch, TX; Thad Shamburg of Witchita, KS; Tina Terazzas of Lewisville, TX, Tara Isaacson of Bavaria, KS; 24 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and many friends. May she rest in peace. Funeral services 10:00am Saturday, June 9, 2017 Dean Funeral Home, Glasco, KS with Pastor Dennis McAlister Officiant. Mrs. Pilcher was born Mona K. Skinner on Oct. 9, 1911, in rural Delphos. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 1976; a daughter, Nelda Shamburg, in 1992; and a son, Robert, in 2000. Survivors include a son, Lewis L. of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dean Funeral Home, 301 E. Main, Glasco 67445. Interment will be in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Nicol Home or Solomon Valley Hospice. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
