Montgomery Patton, Jr., called "Gum" was a river man most of his life. Said to have taken the first flatboat to New Orleans after the Civil War. The Chamber of Commerce presented him with a gold watch and chain. The chain he traded for 12 acres of land in Linn County, Missouri. I don't remember what happened to the watch.
