Obituary: The Kirwin Kansan, Kirwin, Kansas, Nov. 21, 1923 Moses Gaines was born April 7, 1841 in the State of Ohio, and departed this life at the home of his son, Aaron Gaines, near Kirwin on Nov. 17, 1923 at the age of 82 years 7 months and 10 days. ..He was united in matrimony to Sarah E. Blankenship October 28, 1863. To this union were born eight children, five boys and three girls. Those left to mourn his departure are Samuel of Burton, Oregon, Aaron of Kirwin, Ira of Yuma, Colorado, George of Speed and Mrs. Mary Bivens of Swan, Iowa. There are also twenty-six grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one aged sister, Mrs. Briggs Martin of Gretna and other relatives and friends. His wife and three children have preceded him in death. ..Mr. and Mrs. Gaines came to this county in 1878 and took up a homestead north of Deer Creek known as the Singer place and lived at this place a number of years. He has made his home with his children since the death of his wife. ..Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walker of Agra at the home of his son Aaron Gaines, Monday at 2 P.M. Burial was under charge of undertaker D. E. Nesbitt at Hillsdale cemetery.
