Mrs. Cynthia A. Grubb, aged 71 years, 2 months and 28 days. The deceased was born in Marietta, Ohio, November 6, 1820. At the age of twelve years she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and continued a consistent member thereof until death. She leaves ten children, three sons and seven daughters, to mourn her loss. The children are all grown, married, and reside as follows. Mrs. Ashley Knightlinger, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Abraham Knightlinger and Mrs. James R. South, Burlington, Kan.; Mrs. Samuel Burge and Mrs. A. Lawrence, Coffey County, Kan.; Mrs. Mary E. Cane, Nokomis, Ill.; Mrs. Frank B. Smith, and Messrs. John, William and Benjamin Grubb, of near Utopia, this county. The remains of the deceased were laid away at rest and peace in Greenwood Cemetery." NOTE: After the death of her first husband, Benjamin C. Grubb, Cynthia remarried on 29 Oct 1868 in Leesburg Township, Union County, OH, to John Fleming (Union County Ohio Probate Court Marriage Records 1820-1900). Cynthia and John were divorced on 12 February 1878,(Decree of Divorce, filed in the Union Co., Ohio Courthouse, Court of Common Pleas, Book 16, p. 284). This might be the reason the obituary referred to her as Cynthia Grubb, not Cynthia Fleming.
