She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was completed, if work all done and well done constitutes completion. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginnings to its ?end, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way, her faith in God never wavered. But she has left us and today the autumn leaves fall upon another grave that hides from our sight all that is mortal of a true and noble woman.Miss Phoebe F. Allen was born January 4th, 1837, at Newton Falls, Ohio. From Ohio she moved with her parents to Illinois, then to Iowa, where at the age of 20 years, she was united in Marriage to Elijah Shaff, January27th, 1857, at Ludlow, Allamakee county, Iowa.Ten children were born to them, six of which are still living. Henry L. Shaff, Marie, N.D., Mrs Ann Barker, Little Cedar, Iowa, James Shaff, Rochester, Minn., Charles Shaff, Turton S. D., Mrs, Eva Towne, Napoleon, N.D., and Clair Shaff, Kent, Wash.They came to South Dakota in 1888 and lived there until her husband's death on March 23, 1904. Two years lated moved to North Dakota with her eldest son, where she resided up to the time of her death.The remains were brought to this city for burial and the funeral services were conducted from the Congregational church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. John Spittell officiating and the mortal remains were lain to rest in the Estelline cemetery - Marie Wood
