A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 22 at Pleasant Plain Friends Church in Pleasant Plain, Iowa, with visitation at 10 a.m. Wilma was born Aug. 11, 1924, to Etha (Crail) and Albert Jones of Pleasant Plain. She met Norman Pearson at William Penn College in Oskaloosa and they were married at Pleasant Plain Friends Church on Feb. 11, 1945. Norm and Wilma started their marriage on a farm near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, then lived in Whittier, Marion, Cedar Rapids, Manchester, and Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kewanee, Ill., McIntosh, Ala., Citronelle, Ala., Fremont, Iowa, and Fremont, Neb. Wherever they lived, they made lifelong friends, and they were always active in their local church. (They were members of First United Methodist Church in Fremont for several years). Beginning in 1990, Norm and Wilma spent seven years doing volunteer work at the Friends Center, a day school for Choctaw Indians near Mobile, Ala., and then at a church camp in Citronelle, Ala. For 20 years, and into their 80s, Norm and Wilma took care of Wilma’s sister, Waneta Jones, an invalid with severe cerebral palsy. They took Waneta on camping trips, Disneyworld, and many other places until her death in 2006. After Norman died, Wilma moved to West Des Moines to be near her daughter, Phyllis. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Pearson (Dan Bohner), West Des Moines, and Richard Pearson (Priscilla Wilson), Fremont; grandchildren, Rachel (Tak) Yamamoto and Daniel (Ferial) Pearson; and great-grandchildren, Ellis and June Yamamoto, and Ilahi and Iman Pearson. She also had step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made to Pleasant Plain Friends Church in Pleasant Plain, Iowa.
