Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gildersleeve, Glasco, were killed instantly. John Davenport, 28, Glasco, died in St. Joseph's hospital in Concordia at 8:20 a.m. on Friday. Mrs. Davenport, who had a skull fracture and internal injuries, was in a very critical condition Friday in the Concordia hospital and died early Saturday evening. The three year-old son of the Davenports was still unconscious Friday. Extent of his injuries had not been fully determined. The child suffered a possible skull fracture among other injuries. Held in jail in Minneapolis was John Paul Rogers, Dallas, Texas, driver of the grain truck which collided with the car in which the five Glasco people were riding. He was charged with negligent driving and appeared Friday in justice court where hearing was set for August 2. He was released upon posting a $500 bond and returned to Texas. The collision occurred just north of the Pipe Creek bridge on US 81. Investigating the accident were Sheriff Paul Bronson of Minneapolis and Captain Robinson of the State Highway Patrol. These officers quote Rogers as saying the Glasco car, traveling north, was on the wrong side of the highway when he first saw it. He pulled over to the left, attempting to pass, and when the auto crossed over to the right side of the road, he was unable to get back in his own side of the highway. His truck, which was loaded with 400 to 500 bushels of corn, was slightly damaged. The Glasco car was a complete wreck. The Glasco residents had been in Minneapolis and were returning to their homes when the accident occurred. Carl Gildersleeve, 25, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gildersleeve, of Beloit. Mrs. Gildersleeve, 21, was the former Helen Holbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Holbert of Concordia. Both had head injuries, broken legs, and internal injuries. Their bodies were taken to the Griffin Funeral Home in Glasco. They were bride and groom of one year. A joint funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist Church at Glasco. Interment was made in Glasco Cemetery. John Davenport, who died the morning following the crash, never regained consciousness. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Davenport, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, were flying to Glasco Friday. He was their only son. Mrs. Davenport is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Colton of Glasco. A joint funeral service was held at the First Methodist Church in Glasco Monday afternoon. The Griffin Funeral Home was in charge. Burial was made in Glasco Cemetery.
