Description	:	Myrtle Louisa Smith was born in Fennimore, Wisconsin on August 25, 1872. She was the eldest child of C.D. and Louisa Smith. She resided in and near Fennimore until she was graduated from the high school there and began teaching in neighboring communities at the age of 16. Read More	Myrtle Louisa Smith was born in Fennimore, Wisconsin on August 25, 1872. She was the eldest child of C.D. and Louisa Smith. She resided in and near Fennimore until she was graduated from the high school there and began teaching in neighboring communities at the age of 16. When she was 17 years of age she came to Nebraska and made her home with an elder brother and his family at Waverly, Nebraska. For several years after coming to Nebraska she taught in the schools of Saunders County. After her marriage to James H. Ellison in 1893, she resided in Marietta Precinct North East of Wahoo for about 50 years. She took an active interest in community affairs, served the County Farm Bureau on the board, was president of the County Homemakers, the Marietta Mothers club was a Past Worthy Matron of Stella Chapter, O.E.S. 57, and took part in many other civic organizations. Her greatest devotion was to her church in whose various departments she served over a period of 60 years. She maintained her membership in the Wahoo Presbyterian church at the time of her death. Her home for many years was a gathering place for the young people of the Marietta community and countless hours were spent in fellowship there. She spent many years of her life nursing the sick and was tireless in her efforts to promote the comfort and welfare of her patients. To the end she continued to receive expressions of gratitude from those she and helped in periods of distress and emergency. Her interest and love for children continued throughout her entire life. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent most of her time caring for the children during her residence in Omaha. Her talent for expressing herself was unusual, her love of poetry and ability to quote the Classics never left her. At the age of 80 years, her death came suddenly on March 15, 1953 in Fremont, Nebr. at the home of her daughter. Her survivors are a son, James Donald, a daughter, Dorothy, four grandchildren, namely Mrs. Donna Jean Lallman, Mrs. Betty Ann Reese, Judy Kaye Ellison, and Jerry Dean Ellison and two great grandchildren, Steven Kent Lallman and James Ellison Lallman. There are also four half-sisters and a half brother, including Fern Smith of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Funeral services took place at the First Presbyterian church at Wahoo, with the Rev. Elbert J. Nickerson, officiating, assisted by Mrs. E.E. Trimble, organist and Mrs. Howard Manstedt who sang "In the Garden" and "Near the Cross". Pallbearers were Frank Koudele, J.H. Bowers, S.M. Hult, Carlos Shires, S.B. McKlem, and I.M. Thompson. Interment was at Sunrise Cemetery. L.E. Hult in charge of services.
