One family tree does list a "Nancy Mary Conner", 1849-1887, so that name and dates should be used with caution, as the death date alone was actually on October 20, 1889. > Some of these family trees on Ancestry vary as to subsequent marriages, and no attempt is made here to vouch for that information. It does appear credible, though, that she married Henry Goodwin, and is buried with him in Eastview Cemetery, Allen, Dixon county, Nebraska. Beyond that, this contributor is not vouching for other relationship links. > Evidently there is no valid F/A/G memorial for John Connor, who if he did die in California in 1856 the reason for the lack of a memorial may be the lack of information as to where he was buried. How one knows that he died in 1856 in California is not known to this contributor, so any information about his status is beyond the scope of this contributor. > At least one family tree on Ancestry purports to list at least two children born to Nancy - but how accurate that information is needs research. Although the obituary transcribed below stated that Nancy was "demented" since 1868, that may have been a publishing error. Since the marriage to Walter Ellis is legitimate as of April 28, 1877, it is possible that a subsequent birth of a child led to medical/mental issues for Nancy, but that would put the "demented" timeline closer to 1878. It doesn't seem likely that Walter would marry Nancy in 1877 if she was "demented" since 1868, but who knows for sure. -------------------- Wife of Walter Ellis, married in Jefferson county, Iowa on April 28, 1877 (sic. marriage record # 2942). She was married using the name Nancy Connor per marriage record information. -------------------- Note: the following obituary information was found in microfilmed issues of the Fairfield Ledger that are on file at the Fairfield Public Library. This lookup was done by this contributor on August 25, 2016 and transcribed verbatim. It should be strongly cautioned that the obituary references of "insane" and "incurable insane" and "demented" probably had different meanings in 1889 than might be attributable in 2016. People who had illnesses of various natures and who were not able to take care of themselves, or family members who were able to provide care, were often placed in institutions for care. Modern meanings that would imply mental illness may or may not apply, so family researchers should consider these descriptions with caution. Fairfield Ledger Wednesday October 30, 1889 Pg. 3 Col. 2 "..... MRS. NANCY ELLIS, wife of Walter Ellis of Penn township, who was a patient at the hospital for the insane at Mt. Pleasant for several years and was later in the county asylum for incurable insane, died in the latter institution on the 20th inst. Her remains were taken home for interment. Mrs. Ellis had been demented since 1868 (sic. ????)."
