She was married to Valentine Martin Darnell at Pekin Ill., August 9, 1866, and 1878 they moved with their family to Kearney county, Nebraska, taking a homestead near Wilcox where they made their home until 1890, when they came to Minden which has since been the family home. Apr. 26, 1923 Pg. 5 Nancy Ellen Gordon, daughter of James A. and Henrietta Gordon, was born in Tazewell county, Illinois February 1, 1845, and died at her home in Minden, Neb., April 24, 1923, aged 78 years 2 months and 23 days. She was married to Valentine Martin Darnell at Pekin Ill., August 9, 1866, and 1878 they moved with their family to Kearney county, Nebraska, taking a homestead near Wilcox where they made their home until 1890, when they came to Minden which has since been the family home. There were born to this union seven children. Those surviving are Ollie B. Worline, of Omaha, Neb; Warnie D. Darnell of McCook, Neb.; Thomas L. Darnell of Wauneta, Neb.; and Bert F. Darnell of Minden. The husband and two daughters, Sarah Etta Cory and Lillie May Worline and one son, Fred F. Darnell, have preceded her in death. One sister only, Sarah Ann Lamb, of Paola, Kansas., is still living. Mrs. Darnell united with the Church of Christ at her home in Illinois when a young girl, transferring her membership to the church here after moving to Minden. The funeral services were conducted from the home Thursday afternoon by the Rev. G. R. Miller of the Christian church. Interment was in Minden cemetery. Mrs. Darnell was one of those sweet lovable women with whom no one could come in contact without having been bettered by the meeting. She was a mother and a grandmother, not only to her own but to all, as was mutely attested by the banks of beautiful flowers that came from loving hearts to grace her departure from our midst. She is gone in the flesh but the kindly spirit lives and will continue to carry on in the hearts of us who were fortunate enough to have felt its warmth.
