One of Gothenburg Vicinity's Best-Loved Matrons Answers Final Summons. Mrs. Nanke Lauer, nee Frerichs, was born on January 18, 1867, at Golden, Illinois. There she was baptised and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church and there she grew to womanhood, until the year 1886, when with her family she moved to Dawson County, Nebraska. Two years later she was married to Mr. Henry Lauer and has lived with him on their farm, northeast of town, ever since. Her marriage was blessed with ten children, three of whom are now enjoying the long missed company of their mother in the land of eternal bliss. Four boys: William, John, Edward and Henry, and three girls: Anna, Lena and Dorothy, remain pilgrims in the vale of sorrow and are now weeping at her grave, with their father. For a number of years her health had been failing and gradually her condition became more serious. For about two weeks she had been bedfast, and her friends and relatives realized that in the power of man there was no help for her. Everything was done for her to relieve and comfort her, but the fact became clearer that the end could not be far away. When it came, it came as a shock to her loved ones. Her husband lost a good wife, the children a good mother and community a fine and esteemed member, who was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by many friends. She died peacefully Tuesday evening, February 26th, at 7 o'clock, death coming as a deliverer from grave affliction and a hopeless condition. Tuesday morning she received the Holy Sacrament of our Lord's Body and Blood, preparing herself with God's word and prayer for the journey thru the valley of the shadows of death to yonder shore, where there is no pain nor crying, nor sickness nor death, but joy and peace and glory in the presence of the Lamb in the midst of the throne. Peace be with her. Two sisters, Mrs. Henry Garrelts and Mrs. George Sitorius of Gothenburg and three brothers, Harm Frerichs at Hastings; John at Ogallala and Henry at Brule, mourn with the family at her grave. She had reached the age of 62 years, 1 month and 8 days. We bow to God's inscrutable will, praise her who has finished the course and won the crown, and gird our loins to follow her when our time will come. May God also help us win the race. Funeral services were held Friday -Gothenburg Times, trancribed by Rhonda Holton Children: William Henry Lauer, Anna Lauer Fickenscher, Helena Christina "Lena" Lauer Ostendorf, Henry Lauer, Dorothy Lauer Hicken, Elizabeth Lauer (died in childhood), Herman Lauer (died in childhood), Jenja Lauer, Edward Lauer and Jim Lauer.
