REGESTER DIES IN WICHITA Former Local Resident, 83, Was at Home of His Nephew Nathan B. Regester, aged former resident of Fairfield, passed away at the home of his nephew, Howard Inghram, in Wichita, Kansas, at 9 o'clock Sunday evening, according to word received by friends here. He was 73 years of age. Funeral arrangements are not complete, but it is expected the body will arrive here for services at the Murray Funeral home Wednesday. Mr. Register was well known in Fairfield and in the community north of the city where he made his home on a farm for many years. He moved here with his wife about ten years ago, making his home at 201 West Grimes street. Both were well-known in the Methodist church at Pleasant Grove where they retained their membership after moving to Fairfield. He was married March 31, 1875, to Sue Inghram, who preceded him in death last October. Besides the nephew, Howard, he is survived by another nephew, Cecil Van Nuys, of Maywood Ill., and the following nieces and nephews who are children of his sister and Mrs. Regester's brother, Uriah and Annie Graham-Burrel and Rilla of Colorado, Bert of Davenport, Delda of Chicago, and May Davidson of Agency. The body will arrive in Fairfield at midnight tonight. The funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at two oclock at the Murray funeral home in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. --------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Saturday April 7, 1934 Pg. 3 Col. 5 OBITUARY NATHAN REGESTER Nathan Regester, son of John and Mary Cryspen Regester (sic), was born in Washington county, Pa., September 7, 1850. He came to Jefferson county, Ia., in 1866, where he lived until a few months previous to his death, which occurred in Wichita, Kans., April 1, 1934 at the home of his adopted son, Howard T. Inghram (sic. nephew ??). He was married to Susan Inghram, March 31, 1875. For many years they lived three miles north of Fairfield, where they took an active part in Moyer church and all community activities. About the year of 1924 they moved to 201 West Grimes street, Fairfield. He lived there until seven months before his death, at which time his wife passed away. All who knew Mr. Regester appreciated his fine character and genial manner. He is survived by his adopted son, Howard Inghram (sic), and his sister, Cecil Inghram Van Nuys, children of his wife's brother, Thomas Inghram. J. Clarke Publishing Co., Chicago, Pages 122-123 Nathan B. REGESTER. One of the finest and best improved farms in Center township pays tribute to the efforts of N. B. REGESTER, who, in the prosecution of general agricultural and stock-raising pursuits, is meeting with substantial success. He was born in Green county, Pennsylvania, on the 7th of September, 1850; a son of John and Mary (SIBIT) REGESTER, also natives of the Keystone state, the former born on the 4th of October, 1819, and the latter in 1823. The father, who followed the occupations of a carpenter and farmer, passed away in March, 1895, having for more than two decades survived his wife, her death occurring in May, 1874. Their family of four children consists of the following: Rachel Ann, who was called from this life in childhood; Sarah Jane Craig, also deceased; N. B., of this review, and Mary Ann, who married John MURPHY, of Packwood, Jefferson county. N. B. REGESTER spent the first seventeen years of his life in his native state; then, in 1867, he accompanied his parents on their removal to Iowa, the family home being established on the farm upon which he yet resides. He has continued to make his home since that time, with the exception of one year -- 1885 -- which was spent in Kansas. He had been reared to rural life, and, amid the busy activities of the farm, he had learned many lessons concerning the value of industry, perseverance and thrift. The experiences which he gained in the work of the home fields under the direction of his father well prepared him for the successful conduct of an independent venture, when he took up farming on his own account. The tract, which consisted of but eighty acres when it came into his father's possession, now includes one hundred and sixty acres, located on section 2, Center township, and under the wise management of our subject it has been highly developed. A beautiful maple grove, set out by his father, is one of its attractive features, but the more up-to-date improvements upon the farm were instituted by N. B. REGESTER himself. The place is equipped with good barns and substantial outbuildings, all built by him, and, in 1901, he erected a ten-room, modern dwelling, which is one of the finest homes in the township. No stronger evidence could be given of the spirit of progress and energy which dominates its owner than the excellent appearance of the farm; and, today, as a result of his well directed efforts and close application to his farming and stock-raising interests, he is meeting with highly merited success. In March, 1875, Mr. REGESTER was united in marriage to Miss Susan Emma INGHRAM, who was born in Quincy, Illinois October 21, 1858. Her parents, Arthur and Mary Jane (COEN) INGHRAM, were both natives of Pennsylvania. By them she was brought to Iowa when but two years of age, their last days being spent in this state. Having no children of their own, Mr. and Mrs. REGESTER reared Howard INGHRAM, a nephew of Mrs. REGESTER, who is now residing in Fairfield, and they also assisted in the rearing of two others. Mr. REGESTER and his wife belong to the Methodist Episcopal church of Pleasant Grove, and their lives have ever been in harmony with their professions. The democratic party has found in him a stalwart supporter since age conferred upon him the right of franchise; but the honors and emoluments of office have never held attraction for him. Mr. REGESTER is one of the most enterprising farmers in this section, and the honesty of his business transactions and the high morals governing his private life have won for him a place among the valued citizens of Jefferson county.
