Mr. Shannon was one of the early pioneers of this county. He removed from Jefferson county, of this state, in the year 1826, and settled here in Millcreek township, where he remained till within a short time of his decease, passing through all the hardships of pioneer life. Read More	-------------------------------------- Coshocton Age - Saturday - 23 April, 1881 - DIED - Nathan Shannon - On the 4th day of April, 1881, in the township of Keene, Coshocton county, Ohio, Mr. Nathan Shannon. Mr. Shannon was one of the early pioneers of this county. He removed from Jefferson county, of this state, in the year 1826, and settled here in Millcreek township, where he remained till within a short time of his decease, passing through all the hardships of pioneer life. He united with the Presbyterian Church of Keene on the 14th day of June, 1827, and on the 4th day of June, 1832, was elected a Ruling Elder in said church. In which capacity he has ruled well up to the time of his death, being a term of forty-eight years. He was a man of sterling worth and Christian integrity, always loyal to the Church of Christ which he belonged, never halting by the way, to know his duty was to perform it, and always ready to respond in acts of benevolence and flounce, never allowing any schism to allenate his order for the advancement of the interest of the church to which he belonged. He died in the faith of all Immortality beyond the grave, and will be gathered home with his father and friends that have gone before him at the advanced age of eighty-five years, thus the fathers of Isreal are passing away. --------------------------------------- ~ The History of Coshocton Co. Ohio ~ 1881, page 785 SHANNON, NATHAN R., Mill Creek; post office, Keene; born in 1851, in this county. His grandfather, Nathan Shannon, was born in 1796, in Washington county, Pennsylvania. He came to Harrison county in 1805. He was married twice. His first wife dying, he married in 1818, Miss Mary Endsley, of Harrison county, who was born in 1799, in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of eleven children. John P., the father of the subject of this sketch, is the third child. He was born in 1825, in Jefferson county, Ohio; came to this county in 1826, with his father, and was married, in 1850, to Miss Sarah A. McConnell, of this county, who was born in 1830, in county Donegal, Ireland. They are the parents of one child, the subject of this sketch. He was married in 1877, to Miss Emma A. Clark, of this county, who was born in 1856, in this county.
