"SHANNON, NATHAN R., Mill Creek; post office, Keene; born in 1851, in this county. His grandfather, Nathan Shannon, was born in 1796, in Washington county, Pennsylvania. He came to Harrison county in 1805. He was married twice. His first wife dying, he married in 1818, Miss Mary Endsley, of Harrison county, who was born in 1799, in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of eleven children. John P., the father of the subject of this sketch, is the third child. He was born in 1825, in Jefferson county, Ohio; came to this county in 1826, with his father, and was married, in 1850, to Miss Sarah A. McConnell, of this county, who was born in 1830, in county Donegal, Ireland. They are the parents of one child, the subject of this sketch. He was married in 1877, to Miss Emma A. Clark, of this county, who was born in 1856, in this county. They are the parents of one child, John Earl." ~ Source: The History of Coshocton Co. Ohio ~ 1881, page 785 "Obituary - Mrs. Mary Endsley Shannon, born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, April 22d, 1799, died near Keene, Ohio, July 6th, 1890, aged 91 years, 2 months, 14 days. Her maiden name was Polly Endsley. She married Mr. Nathan Shannon, April 27, 1820. Was the mother of ten children, six of whom, one, Isaac, being a minister of the Gospel, have proceded her to the Spirit world. Polly Shannon and her husband were pioneers to Coshocton county, and were charter members of the Presbyterian church at Keene when organized in 1818. Mr. Shannon was elected to the Ruling Eldership, an office he held with remarkable fidelity until his death in 1881. Mrs. Shannon united with the church early in life. She was faithful, regular and exemplary. She sweetly fell asleep on Sabbath last, and her body awaits the resurrection of the just."
