Description	:	S/O Nehemiah & Frances (Craven) Ames. H/O Eliza Dutterer. They were married 4 Dec 1856 & had 5 children: Emanuel, Frances Catherine, John H, Hannah & Loretta. Nehemiah enlisted in the Union Army on 1/4/1864 and was stationed in TN, where he contracted a violent fever & died, never seeing any active service. There is a big question as to where he is buried. There is a marker (and a Find-A-Grave memorial #54755135) for Nehemiah in the Nashville National Cemetery and also a place where he is possibly buried beside his wife at Six Corners... As Six Corners was a private cemetery during it's early years, there were NO records kept, thus there are several "missing" people who were presumed to be buried there. There is also an obvious place where a "missing grave marker' was initially located next to the grave marker of his wife Eliza. (see photo) Eliza (Otis) Yeager, daughter of Loretta and granddaughter of Nehemiah Jr., assembled the material of Nehemiah's family which was published in the "Ames of the Name" book, pages 69-74. Her material was written prior to 1959, the date of the book's publishing. It reads: "With the angels he is marching, Laurel wreaths upon his brow--- for his Country he has fallen: Who will care for Eliza now?" It continues: "The above epitaph appears on a grave marker in the beautiful Six Corners Cemetery near Hicksville, Ohio. It is the heartrendering last wail of a widow who had seen her husband march off "with the heroes" --expecting to participate in the war between the states. However, fever overtook him and death followed without Nehemiah, Jr., seeing any active service at all". ****Note the sentence which says, "The above epitaph appears on a grave marker in the beautiful Six Corners Cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio", which indicates there was a grave marker here at one time. The big question remains as to where Nehemiah Jr. is actually buried. Was he "originally buried" in the Nashville National Cemetery, then later reburied next to his wife in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville, OH?
