Mrs. Kaelke, the former Nellye Morten, was born Dec. 23, 1880, at Green Island, Neb. She was a graduate of the University of South Dakota and taught in public schools for several years. She was married to Paul Wendt, June 25, 1913, at Vermillion, S. D. He died in 1933. She was married to Louis Kaelke July 26, 1950 Le Mars. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Morehead of Akron; two sons, Morten Wendt of Arlington, Va., and Charles S. Weivdt of Sedalla, Mo.; a brother, Dr. C. A. Morten of Yankton, S.D.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Le Mars Daily Sentinel September 3, 1963 Le Mars, Iowa ESTEEMED AKRON RESIDENT DIES AT NURSING HOME Rites Are Held Here Last Tuesday For Mrs. Louis Kaelke As briefly noted in these columns last week, the final summons came to Mrs. Louis Kaelke, 82, a long-time and esteemed resident here on Sunday, September 1, at the Brentwood Nursing Home in Le Mars, where she and her husband had resided for several months. She had been in failing health for some time. Nellye Morten was born December 23, 1880, at Green. Island, Nebraska. Later moving to a farm near Hartington, Nebr., with her parents, and at the age of ten moved with them to Vermillion, S. D., where she grew to womanhood. She attended the University of South Dakota, obtaining a Certificate of Music in. 1903 (equivalent today to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree), then obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1908. Coming to Akron in 1910 she taught in the public school here and later in the Sioux City schools. In 1913 she was united in marriage with Paul Wendt, a local merchant, and came back to Akron to live. This remained her home until the time of the death of her husband in 1933. Their union was blessed with one daughter and two sons. She returned to Vermillion to reside. On July 26, 1950, she married Louis Kaelke, of Akron, and lived here until going to the Brentwood home. Mrs. Kaelke was a member of Wesley Methodist church, and of Vesper Chapter, O.E.S., Book and Thimble Club and Utile Dulce, of Akron. Surviving, besides her husband, Louis, are one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Helen)'Morehead, of Akron; two sons, Morten Wendt, of Arlington, Va., and Charles Sherwood Wendt, of Sedalia, Mo., five grandchildren and two great-1 grandchildren; and one brother, Dr. C. A. Morten, of Yankton, S. D. Funeral services were held last Tuesday in Wesley Methodist church, Rev. Donald Roberts officiating. Richard Smith was soloist and Mrs. Orin Harris was pianist. Pallbearers were Eugene Lias, Oscar Baldwin, Harry Nelson, Sieben Siebens, V. G. Adams and Wm. L. Mitchell. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
