The Rev. Clifford Haider officiated at the 10 a.m. service. Mr. Shields, the son of Oscar and Essie Bay Shields, was born April 11,1900, at Grand River. He married Pearle G. Briner on April 26, 1926, at Grand Island, Neb. The couple were the parents of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pearle in 1985; daughter, Betty Wetzler, grandson, James Shields; sister, Lucille Boles and step great-grandson, Cory Wright. Surviving Mr. Shields are four daughters, Alice Herrold and her husband, Harvey of Iowa Falls, Hazel Newton and her husband, Hugh, of Atlantic, Cleone Woughter and her husband, Thomas, of DePew, N. Y. and Virginia Howard and her husband, Stephen, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three sons, Edgar Shields and his wife, Beth, of Grand River, Joe Shields and his wife, Ramadean, of Grand River, and Jasper Shields and his wife, Lucille, of Cache, Okla.; 33 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Sanford Shields and his wife, Hazel, of Jacksonville, Fla. and a brother-in-law, Homer Briner and his wife, Velma, of Corydon Contributor: LINDA - [email protected]
