He recovered sufficiently to attend to business at the store part of each day, and on Friday evening remained down town till about 10 o'clock. His son, N. S. Bright, was detained a few moments and the old gentleman walked on alone. Doctor Magill, of whose church Mr. Bright had long been a faithful member. The old settlers attended in a body. N. M. Bright was born in Marshall County, Virginia, July 30, 1819. In childhood sickness stopped the growth of his left arm, and this incapacity for hard work led him to engage in school teaching. He was married in 1842 at Bellsville, Ohio, to Isabella Kelly. They came to Fairfield in December 1845. Mrs. Bright died in 1874. Of the three children born to them, N. S. Bright and Mrs. P. I. Labaugh survive their parents. Mr. Bright was postmaster during part of Buchanan's administration. In 1857 he engaged in the hardware business. With his one hand, a clear head, and pure heart he achieved more than average success in life, and exerted the highest kind of influence. No nobler type of Christian manhood has ever existed in our community.
