He was born Dec. 25, 1906, in Le Mars, the son of John and Elizabeth (Koch) Kneip. He married Dorothy Kunkel Jan. 13, 1931, in Le Mars. The couple farmed in Marion Township south of Oyens. In 1971 they retired and moved to Oyens. He had been a resident at Brentwood for three weeks. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, the St. Catherine's Men's Club, and the Knights of Columbus of Le Mars. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Gerald and Loree Kneip and Robert and Ruth Kneip, all of Le Mars, and Richard and Joyce Kneip of Oyens; a daughter and her husband, Cindy and Delbert Berkenpas of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Mary Kneip; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Donna Mae; a son, Loren; a sister, Sister Anysia Kneip, and four brothers, William, Joseph, the Rev. Charles Kneip, and Peter Kneip. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Church in Oyens, with Father Jerome Cosgrove officiating, assisted by Father Timothy Hogan. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. +++ Le Mars Sentinel, IA, January 16, 1931, pg. 1, col. 3 NUPTIAL TIES ARE ASSUMED Miss Dorothy Kunkel and Nicholas Kneip Are United In Marriage Ceremony At Church A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Joseph's Catholic church on Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock, January 13, when Miss Dorothy Kunkel became the bride of Nicholas Kneip, Mgr. W. A. Pape officiating. Miss Mildren Kunkel, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid and Peter Kneip, brother of the groom, was best man. The bride was attired in a dress of white satin with shadow lace flounce and wore a tulle veil in cap effect trimmed with pearls and sweet peas and carried a shower bouquet of bridal roses and sweet peas. She wore a beautiful pearl necklace, a gift of the groom. The bridesmaid was attired in a dress of pink satin and carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party drove to the home of the bride's parents where a three course dinner was served to a large number of relatives. The dining room and tables were decorated in the bride's chosen colors, pink and white. The table was centered with a large wedding cake and lighted candles. The table waitresses were Misses Leona and Celesta Kemp, Phil and Josephine Kurtzhals, Margaret Langel and Rosella Nuebel, friends of the bride. Joseph Kemp and Leo Nuebel, friends of the groom, acted as ushers. The day was spent at cards and music and closed with a shower dance at Columbia hall with Becker's orchestra furnishing the music. The young couple received many beautiful presents. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Kunkel, of Le Mars, and was born and reared in Plymouth county and the groom is the son of John Kneip, of Le Mars. Both bride and groom are popular young people and have a large circle of friends who wish them a long and happy wedded life. Mr. and Mrs. Kneip left this morning on a honeymoon trip to Dubuque and Dyersville, Iowa and different parts of Wisconsin and at Wilmont, Minn. They will be at home to their many friends after February 15, on a farm south of Le Mars with the groom's father.
