Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Nicholas Stelpflug, the son of Jacob and Caroline Stelpflug, was born February 22, 1852, in Potosi, Wisc. He grew to manhood in that vicinity. He united in marriage April 23, 1879, with Margaret Kreul in Highland, Wisc. In 1881 they moved to Pocahontas county and established their home on a farm in Roosevelt township. Several years later they moved to Pocahontas where they had purchased the property now known as Stelpflug's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Addition. The area was then pasture land. Mr. Stelpflug engaged in the livestock business here for a number of years and in 1910 the family moved to a farm one half mile west of town. Eight years later they retired and again located in Pocahontas. For the past five years Mr. and Mrs. Stelpflug have made their home with their daugher Mrs. J. H. Collins of Fonda. Mrs. Stelpflug died, August 17, 1947. The couple observed the 68th anniversary of their marriage last April 22. Mr. Stelpflug is survived by nine children. They are Mrs. Chas. Schott and Mrs. Leo Wolken of Pocahontas; Mrs. P. H. Holder and Mrs. J. H. Collins of Fonda; Mrs. Lena Sherwood of Gilmore City; Mrs. A. J. Green of Florence, Colo; Mrs. Ed Burke of Lohrville; and N. W. Stelpflug of LeMars and William of St. Louis. Five children, George, Henry, Jacob, Joseph and Mary preceeded him in death. He is also survived by one brother, John J. Stelpflug, 88, of Lucas. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barrett, Mrs. Marie Kendall, Fonda; Mr. and Mrs. Phil McAlpine, Mrs. Leo Collins, Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Collins of Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Art Schott and Bob Stelpflug, Woodward; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Schall, Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Stelpflug and Dennis, LeMars; Bill Stelpflug, St. Louis; Mrs. Jim McAlpine, Pomeroy; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Burke, Lohrville; Mrs. Clem Dunn and son, Gilmore City; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kelleher, Palmer; Mrs. Jake Stelpflug, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Frances Schott and family, Storm Lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stelpflug of Early.
