Snyder officiating. The organist, Mrs. Mabel Dunn accompanied Mrs. Carolyn Harris in the following vocal selections, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Casket bearers were Larry Higgins, Richard Higgins, Gordon Sturm, Stanley Higgins, Jim Miller, and Dick Martin. Nora Christina Beckwith, daughter of George and Sara Ward Beckwith, was born at Lewis, Iowa, November 24, 1887, passed away at the Rosary Hospital, Corning, Iowa, Monday, April 24, 1967, at the age of 82. She had been in poor health for many years and entered the hospital the previous Tuesday. Nora grew to womanhood in the Lewi community and on October 28, 1903, she was united in marriage to James Franklin Higgins in the Christian Church at Villisca. Seven children were born to this union. The home was established at Villisca where Mr. Higgins worked for the Burlington Railroad for 37 years. They always lived in Villisca except for one year in Colorado. For many years Mrs. Higgins was a member of the Degree of Honor, serving as juvenile director. Nora was preceded in death by her husband on January 1, 1957, by one daughter, and one son, who died in infancy; by two sons, Harold and Lowell Higgins, and by thee brother, George, Jim, and Oren Beckwith. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. June Sturn, Gravity, Iowa; two sons, Elmer Higgins, Villisca and Theodore Higgins, Red Oak, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Kendah, Peoria, Illinois, and Mrs. Mamie Pratt, Red Oak, 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
