He was born in rural Concordia, Kansas on June 28, 1929 to Milton A. and Allie A. (Snavely) Gerard. Rex was in the Class of 1947 Concordia High School. On August 19, 1950 he married Pat Sawin in Concordia, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Pat of the home; 3 Sons, Joe Gerard (Dee), Concordia, KS.; Greg Gerard (Troy), Haugan, MT.; and Jeff Gerard, Concordia, KS.; 2 Daughters, Glenda Clemons (Dave), Concordia, KS.; Kim Gerard, Yuma, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Melva Gerard, Concordia, KS.; sister-in-law, Rosalie Sawin, Salina, KS.; Several nieces and nephews. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, grand-daughter, Nicole Barleen, a brother, Burton K. Gerard, 3 sisters, Irene Richard, Freda Richard and Velma Shepard. Rex was an owner operator of Rex Gerard Excavating from 1956-1994 when he retired. He was a member of the Our Lady Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, Elks Club, American Legion Post 76 all of Concordia and the KLICA. He served on the City Commission and was Concordia Mayor in 1968. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with Rev. Brian Lager officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 1 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Vigil Service will be held 6:00 p.m., Monday evening all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Family will greet friends after the Vigil Service. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Concordia Cemetery Fund c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
