Description	:	OLAF AND EDITH ULVEN Olaf Ulven was born April 13, 1890, in Willow Township, Monona County, Iowa, to Ole and Karen Ulven. In 1904 the family moved to the Crum Ranch. In 1908 Olaf met the Braden girls, Maude and Edith, at a dance at Elmer Lee's. Olaf took Maude home that night and Chris Gran took Edith home. Read More	OLAF AND EDITH ULVEN Olaf Ulven was born April 13, 1890, in Willow Township, Monona County, Iowa, to Ole and Karen Ulven. In 1904 the family moved to the Crum Ranch. In 1908 Olaf met the Braden girls, Maude and Edith, at a dance at Elmer Lee's. Olaf took Maude home that night and Chris Gran took Edith home. The next date they switched partners and stayed that way the rest of their lives. Olaf and Edith were married December 5, 1911. Edith was born November, 18, 1891, to Charles and Mary Eliza Braden. Edith taught in several country schools before getting married. Olaf and Edith's first home was the John Stoll farm south and west of Ole Ulven's farm. Earl Edward was born here December 17, 1912. They then purchased and moved to the North Farm in the spring of 1914. Six more children were born here: Mildred Irene (Mrs. George Britten) September 1, 1914, Verne Clifford January 18, 1917, Lydia Adelaide (Mrs. Harvey Jorgenson) October 21, 1918, Bennett Charles August 19, 1921, Doris Nadine (Mrs. Raymond Stoffregan) February 24, 19224, and Donald Loren April 14, 1926. They later moved to Denison and later to a farm at Lake View. They spent their lifetime farming until 1943 when ill health forced them to retire. They moved to town and R.A. and Doris took over the farm and are still living there. All four sons served in WWII. Olaf loved to fish and spent many may hours at his favorite fishing spot at Blackhawk Lake. Olaf passed away October 17, 1952 from a heart attack. Edith's main hobby was crocheting. She also love to tat. She forced herself to crochet as long as she could to keep her arthritic fingers from getting stiff. Edith passed away August 13, 1978 at the nursing home at Wall Lake, Iowa. Olaf and Edith are buried at the St. Clair Cemetery at Ute.
