Olive was born April 16, 1909 near Mascot in Harlan County, Nebraska, the daughter of Daniel and Katie (Grosenbach) Troutman. She received her education at Mascot, graduating with the class of 1928. She then pursued higher education at Hastings College to receive her teaching certificate. Olive then taught school at Mascot for two years. On August 11, 1932 she was united in marriage at the Mascot Evangelical Church by Reverend Kirkwood to Kenneth McArthur of Atlanta, Nebraska. To this union one son, Donald was born. Kenneth and Olive made their home south of Holdrege for forty-nine years. The couple moved into Holdrege in 1981. Olive was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1983. Olive lived alone until January of 1988, when she relocated to assisted living at the Methodist Memorial Homes. She lived a happy life and always tried to be helpful to others. Olive was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, where she was a member of the W.M.S., Deacons Auxiliary and taught Sunday School for many years. Olive enjoyed many friendship bonds formed through the years in birthday club and the Friendship Extension Club of which she was past-president. She was also a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. Olive enjoyed sewing, needlework, scrapbooking photo albums and loved to read poetry, especially work by Edgar A. Guest. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Donald McArthur of Syracuse, New York; grandson, Michael McArthur of Ithaca, New York; brother, George Troutman and his wife, Doris of Cypress, California; sister-in-law, Gladys McArthur of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Erma Scheibe and her husband, Kermit; brother, Andrew Troutman and his wife, Maudie; brother-in-law, Howard McArthur and sister-in-law, Velma Sprague.
