Description	:	“OLIVE PHELPS ROWTEN [sic] – Olive Ellen Phelps Rowton, fifth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Phelps was born in Finney county Kans., Oct. 19, 1895 and died at her home in Wichita, Kan. She was a graduate of the high school and one... Read More	“OLIVE PHELPS ROWTEN [sic] – Olive Ellen Phelps Rowton, fifth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Phelps was born in Finney county Kans., Oct. 19, 1895 and died at her home in Wichita, Kan. Oct. 22 1918, age 23 years, 3 days. At the age of 10 she moved with her parents from their home about 20 miles north, to Cimarron with her parents, where she spent the happy care free days of youth and young womanhood, entering whole heartedly into the school, church and social life of the community. She was a graduate of the high school and one of the successful teachers of the county up to the time of her marriage, when she assumed the responsibility of a home maker and mother, the greatest honor conferred upon woman and the source of man’s richest blessing. She was united in marriage to Clarence Rowton Jan [Jun?] 2, 1916 and to this marriage were born two children, Theda age 17 months, and an infant baby 5 days old, who will be deprived of a mother’s loving care and attention. She was not afraid to die, but not ready to leave her family the unfinished task of a wife and mother. Soon after moving to Cimarron she united with the Christian church, where she remained until 1910 when she came with the rest of the family to the Methodist Episcopal church, where she took an active part in all church activities. Many will remember her gift of song that lifted the load of sorrow and sent them out with the new determination and hopes. She was a teacher in the primary department of the S.S., helping to mold the young life of the community for Christ and the church. It is hard to witness scenes like this; 2 young mothers in a week’s time calmly and sweetly saying “Thy will be done.” But we cannot change and so mush accept the inevitable, so how much better to do so in the spirit of the trusting child, knowing that His love can never fail. Mrs. Rowton leaves to mourn her departure, her devoted husband and 2 children; father and mother and brothers Ernest, Harry and Theodore; sisters Mrs. Ada Phelps Grant, Edith, Bessie and Pearl Phelps to remember her many virtues and miss her pleasant, vivacious spirit. The splendid floral offerings are the tribute of the community to the departed.
