That was an inscription error that probably was not able to be fixed due to the fact that it was engraved and not possible to fix without damage to the monument. Oliver actually died on Sunday, January 29, 1911 at Glendale, in Jefferson county, Iowa. Glendale is now a defunct town and not listed in locations on the FindAGrave location criteria, so the DOD location goes only as far as Jefferson county, Iowa. This memorial is updated on November 9, 2015 with the corrected DOD, even though the headstone inscription shows the DOD as Feb. 29, 1911. ---------------- Note: The following information was received from Robert Hoge on November 5, 2015 regarding the original Swedish name: "Per the book "Eighty Years of Swedish Baptist Work In Iowa 1853-1933" by L.J. Ahlstrom, published by The Swedish Baptist Conference of Iowa (Des Moines, Iowa 1933) - The official name is listed as Olof Sixten Schillerstrom. Oliver is the Americanized name given to Olof." An outside link was provided for further information, but is not included on this memorial as outside links are not allowed on memorials. ---------------- Husband of Ella (original given name may have been Ellen) Charlotte Larson Schillerstrom. Oliver and Ella were actually married on October 31, 1888 at Glendale, Jefferson county, Iowa, marriage license # 6558. The marriage was officiated by Rev. A. R. Toothacre. Although the Fairfield Ledger listed (on November 9, 1888, shown on this memorial) recent marriages, births, and deaths, the entry for a October 26th marriage between Oliver Schillerstrom and Miss Ella C. Larson was evidently a misreading of the marriage application. Because Ella was a minor (aged 17), her father L.M. Larson had to give parental consent to the marriage, which he did on October 27, 1888. Perhaps someone submitted the marriage information to the Fairfield Ledger under the mistaken impression that the marriage took place on the 26th, and so it was published as such in error. This contributor has looked at the full marriage record and it does give the marriage date as being October 31, 1888. The license was made official by Charles Sippel, Clerk District Court. Ella's Fairfield Ledger obituary inadvertently listed the marriage year as 1887, while the Jefferson County Republican obituary for Oliver stated that they were married in 1889. Sigh. ---------------- Fairfield Ledger Wednesday Feb. 11, 1911 Pg. 6 Col. 2 Died After Long Illness. Oliver S. Schillerstrom died at the home of J. M. Kyle, near Glendale, Sunday, after suffering from ill health for several years. He was born in March, 1851, and a large portion of his life had been spent in this county. His wife died several years ago, but several children survive him. He was a member of a family well known in eastern Jefferson county and was a man who was held in high esteem by those who knew him. The body was interred in Union cemetery Monday afternoon. ----------------- Fairfield Journal Tuesday Feb. 28, 1911 "..... On the 29th Oliver J. Schillerstrom (sic. Oliver S. Schillerstrom) died in Lockridge township, aged 59.
