Description	:	It was Opal to grandfather Bond, Darlene to grandmother Bond and mom to me. If ever there was a person who wasn't overly religious deserving of Sainthood it would be my mom. Read More	It was Opal to grandfather Bond, Darlene to grandmother Bond and mom to me. If ever there was a person who wasn't overly religious deserving of Sainthood it would be my mom. If you could picture someone in your mind who did without to provide for her five kids, this would be her. As poor as we were growing up we didn't know it. We never missed a meal and our clothes were clean. We never realized then that she only had two dresses a winter and a summer one. We figured she loved that winter coat she wore year after year. Shoes usually consisted of a pair of leather moccasins and a pair of rubber boots when it was wet or snowing. We thought it was normal for her to work two jobs 8 to 4 picking feathers off turkeys for market and rush home fix us something to eat then 5 to 10 as a waitress/cook, six days a week. On Sunday she did her washing heated her water on the stove and used a ringer washing machine, then hung them out to dry. There was no running water, so we carried water. Two Warm Morning stoves so we carried coal and of course there was that outhouse. I remember when she signed up and brought home her first box of Commodities (government handout) she sat there at the table and cried because she had to take "charity" in her words. We never missed a meal and I really like potato soup, egg noodles, fried potatoes, government cheese, fried bread wild rabbit and squirrels. I however hate Spam, baloney, peanut butter, powdered potatoes. We ate them because mom did the best she could to put it on the table. Mom raised all her kids to be productive members of society and wasn't afraid use the rod when discipline was necessary but at 98 lbs it didn't hurt too bad. This bio doesn't do her justice for all she meant to me growing up and i couldn't repay her if I had two lifetimes to do it. Mom's brothers and sisters are as follows Robert Adolphus, Madoyln Mardelle, John Delmer, William Floyd, Richard Derrell, Georgia Mae and Carolyn Deloris.
