Description	:	Creighton and the surrounding community was saddened Friday afternoon when it became known that O.A. McGowen, prominent farmer and stockman, had passed away at his home near Brunswick. While for the past six months he had been suffering from cancer of the esophagus and while the end was not wholly unexpected, his passing in middle life had removed from our midst a highly respected citizen, neighbor and friend. While for the past six months he had been suffering from cancer of the esophagus and while the end was not wholly unexpected, his passing in middle life had removed from our midst a highly respected citizen, neighbor and friend. Mr. McGowen was characterized by high ideals in his home and the home neighborhood. For a number of years he was president of the Farmers' Union at Venus, Nebr. and later served six years as assessor in Eden township. Born of Catholic parentage, his life work was fashioned upon the "Live and Let" of the Golden Rule. Orra Arthur McGowen was born January 28, 1877 near Barada, Richardson County, Nebr. and died at the family residence here August 14, 1931, aged 54 years, 6 months and 10 days. Upon leaving the Richardson County home, the family moved to Bancroft, where the boy, Orra, grew to manhood. On April 17, 1900 at Pender, Nebr. he was united in marriage to Mary Gunderson, who with two sons, Alvin, a nephew, reared in the family from babyhood and Cecil, born to their union, survive him. Having chosen a farming career, the family moved from Bancroft to Venus, Nebr. and in March, 1918 to their present home, where Mr. McGowen was actively engaged in hog raising and long recognized as one of our heaviest shippers. When overtaken by the dread disease, he disposed of stock and farm equipment that he might enjoy in quietude the comforts of his home. All that medical skill and loving hands could do proved of no avail and surrounded by his loved ones, he passed into Eternal rest. Funeral services in charge of Rev. Father Brady of Plainview were held at St. Ludger church in Creighton, Monday morning with interment in St. Ludger cemetery. Active pallbearers were Max Baird, Clarence Hannerman and William Thompson of Brunswick, Zim Butterfield and George Butler of Walnut and Joe Goetzinger of Creighton. Other relatives surviving the deceased are five brothers, Leo of Spalding, Nebr; Ole, William and Murray, whose homes are in California and Bert of Saskatzhewan, Canada; also two sisters, Mrs. J.E. Rumsey of Kansas City, Mo. and Mrs. D.E. Spickler of Falls City, Nebr and four grandchildren. Out of town relatives present at the funeral were Leo McGowens'; Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Spickler; Mr. and Mrs. John Frink of Bancroft; Mr. and RMs. Earl Brown and fmaily and Bert Gundersen of Lyons. The News extends condolences to the bereaved.
