Description	:	Oren Clifford Bender, 77, of Accident, MD died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at WMHS Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, MD. Born December 3, 1936, in Springs, PA he was the son of the late Norman E. and Beulah (Yoder) Bender. He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond C. Born December 3, 1936, in Springs, PA he was the son of the late Norman E. and Beulah (Yoder) Bender. He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond C. Bender and three sisters, Mary Anna Yoder, Viola Orendorf and Arlene Bender. Mr. Bender was ordained in 1972 at the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, where he retired from ministry. In 1968 he received the Farming for a Better Living Award and in 1994 he was inducted into the Maryland Agriculture Hall of Fame. He was President and ongoing member of the Garrett County Holstein Association, member and Chairman of the State Holstein Association for several years, and board member of the Regional Farm Credit Association. He was the first Chairman of the Garrett County Holstein Sale and several subsequent terms. Oren judged dairy shows in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania and he supported local and regional sales by consigning quality Holsteins. He also served on the Eastern Southern States Board of Directors and Southern States Board of Directors. His ministry focus was very community oriented and he had a passion to reach out to people at a personal level. As such he knew no strangers. “Preach the Word” and “Harvest of Souls” were personal banners which guided and empowered his ministry. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fannie M. (Maust) Bender; four sons, Bob Bender and wife, Alice; Doug Bender and wife, Julia, all of Accident; Oren Kevin Bender and wife, Kim, Meyersdale, PA; Brian D. Bender and wife, Kelly, Venice, FL; two daughters, Trish Yoder and husband, Chester, Accident; Sheila Miller and husband Ken, Venice, FL; one brother, Carl Bender, Accident; five sisters, Erma Miller, London, OH; Miriam Yoder, Greencastle, PA; Eva Jean Maust, Accident; Doris Yoder, Grantsville; Jane Moser, Springs, PA; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-children. Friends will be received at the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church located at 4051 Accident-Bittinger Rd, Accident, MD on Saturday from 7-9 and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral service will be conducted in the church on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Barry Maust and Pastor Chester Yoder officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Cherry Glade Cemetery. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements.
