Although she had been very sick for several weeks and seriously ill for about three weeks the news of her passing came like a thunder bolt out of a clear sky and all Stratford was sad and will be for many days. Orlow was born in Stratford September 9, 1899, and passed away October 17, 1917 being 18 years, 1 month and 8 days old. She was the only daughter of Nels and Alma (Rosengren) Sandell, who are sadly bereaved over her early passing. They with their sons, Carl and Maynard, other relatives and many hosts of friends are left to mourn her early passing away. Last June she graduated from the local schools with the class of 1917. She spent the summer months in preparing herself for teaching and last fall secured a position at a school south of Stratford. She taught two weeks although she complained of not feeling well and on her birthday, September 9th, she was compelled to give up her school and became bedridden with typhoid fever. For several weeks she held her own against the ravages of this disease when she suddenly suffered a severe hemorrhage and from that time on her life hung in a balance. Last Wednesday night an internal hemorrhage attacked her and drained the last vital spark of her already weakened body and her soul returned to Him who gave it. In the death of Miss Orlow we fully and keenly realize our loss. She was a true friend, and her devotion to those she loved would make a bright chapter in any life. Nothing but the thought of the loving hand that has removed her can reconcile us to her absence. While she has gone from the scenes, the conflicts, the sorrows and pleasure of life, she will live in the hearts of those who knew her best. Her retiring nature led her to hide her best qualities from public gaze, but they were revealed to those who enjoyed her acquaintance, yet it was in her home that her true worth was most conspicuous. She was a kind and loving daughter and sister, and her devotion to the family circle had no limit. Her future was full of promise, and we dare not ask why she was taken from us in her prime, unless, as flowers are picked before the frost finds them that we may witness their decay. It is sad, indeed, to see one so well equipped for life taken so unexpectedly, yet for her there was no standing on the borderland, gazing into the unknown, for death came as the sunset dies along the hills when the day is over. A life that imparts such a lession is well worth living. Orlow had lived a beautiful life and died triumphant and happy. She was in her happy teens; the time when youth stands waiting before the half-open doors that leads into a fairer and a more promising land of dreams and flowers. As she would have entered a messenger came and said: "Come this way. It is for the best." And she will not be forgotten. The night winds will whisper her name and the stars will serve as reminders. She will not be forgotten. "But now she sleeps where the daisies nod, And the clover hangs its head, Where the wild birds come and the wild bees hum, Above her lonely bed. She fought the fight, she kept her faith, Her fame shines bright and clear, And her memory lives in all our hearts Which will hold it over dear." Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Sunday with Rev. H.I. Pharo in charge. Many hundreds of people came to pay their last respects to a dearly beloved friend, one whom many will mourn as they would a near and dear relative. Many floral pieces attested to their love for the departed young lady. The remains were laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery amid the sobs and tears of relatives and friends.
