Description	:	Grandma Romkee First of all for those of you who didn't know Grandma Romkee, let me tell you a little about her. She was the 8th child of David Stephen Manley and Isabella Barbara McNair Manley. She was born Orpha Mae Manley on January 13, 1904 in Kirk, Colorado. She married William Romkee on September 24, 1924. They had five children: Wilfred, Stanley, Byron, Keith and Richard. I am Richard's youngest child. Read More	Grandma Romkee First of all for those of you who didn't know Grandma Romkee, let me tell you a little about her. She was the 8th child of David Stephen Manley and Isabella Barbara McNair Manley. She was born Orpha Mae Manley on January 13, 1904 in Kirk, Colorado. She married William Romkee on September 24, 1924. They had five children: Wilfred, Stanley, Byron, Keith and Richard. I am Richard's youngest child. As far back as I can remember Grandma had short white hair that she kept curled and combed straight back, she had beautiful blue eyes, she was short and sturdy, not too fat and not too thin. She was a sober and serious woman that never laughed much, that I remember anyway...But I think she enjoyed life. She especially enjoyed her family, although in later years children made her nervous, I especially made her nervous because I was such a rambunctious child. I think the happiest memory I have of grandma was when I was about 7 or 8 years old and Randy, Ronda and I were spending the summer with Grandma and Grandpa Thompson, because Mom had to have surgery. Randy and Ronda had gone to Church Camp but I was still too young to go. So Grandma Thompson took me over to see Grandma Romkee and on our way over we stopped at Dairy Queen and bought 3 sundaes Chocolate, Butterscotch and Strawberry. Before we got to Grandma Romkee's, Grandma Thompson told me to let Grandma Romkee have her pick of flavors first. I don't remember what either of the Grandma's picked but I ended up with the chocolate which was my favorite. The 3 of us sat and talked and ate ice cream and laughed for about an hour, it's one of the few times in my life that I remember Grandma laughing and I like to remember Grandma in that way, probably because she did not laugh very often, when she did it made an impression.
