Read More	THE ARCHIE MANLEY STORY Archie Currie Manley was born on November 14, 1909 at the home place southeast of Kirk Colorado. He was the son of David Stephen Manley and Isabella Barbara McNair Manley. David Stephen and Belle were blessed with twelve children. Archie was the eleventh child. He graduated from the Kirk High School in 1928. He enjoyed playing tennis and baseball. He was united in marriage to Mildred Baxter on Dec. 23, 1933 in Wray Colorado. Mrs. Manley was raised south of Holbrook, Nebraska. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Archie and Mildred lived in several places in the early years, including Fruita, Dillon, Heeney, Grand Lake and Granby Colorado; Provo and Price, Utah and Curtis, Nebraska. His work was basically as a mechanic during this period, but he also helped build the Green Mountain Dam and the Adams Water Tunnel. He loved to fish, but had little time for it until he retired. He was a fantastic dancer and could play any stringed instrument, the piano, or the drums. He owned a banjo and it was a special treat when he played it and sang to his children. He served in the United States Army during World War II from March 1944 until January 1946 and was in charge of the motor-pool stationed in Georgia. He was discharged in the spring of 1947, at which time he went to Granby Colorado and got a job as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Vic McQueary. In 1949, he bought the equipment company from Vic. Archie ran this business, which included building roads and fish ponds, laying water and/or sewer lines for surrounding towns and individuals, thawing water lines in the winter and moving buildings. He compiled his own bids, did his own surveying and bookkeeping. He operated the company until 1977. He was a member of the volunteer fire department, and served as fire chief and assistant fire chief. He received awards from the department for duty "Above and Beyond…" He lived in Granby until 1979, when he and his wife moved to Edison, Nebraska, where he lived at the time of his death. Archie was a member of the local American Legion Post, the Lee Ferguson Post #342. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, seven sisters, one grandson. Archie is survived by his wife, Mildred Manley of Edison; sons, Charles Stephen Manley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sidney Raymond of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter, Barbara Pearl Hamilton of Grand Junction Colorado and son Thomas Orville of Granby. He leaves also one sister Bernice Griffin of Natoma, Kansas. He is survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. We know that he leaves a host of friends who loved and admired him. To his children the one Bible verse that pictured his life was that of Proverbs 20:7 "The just man walketh in his integrity; his children are blessed after him. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Edison, Nebraska Tuesday May 11, 1982 with Reverend John Nawn officiating.
