Fox departed this life at her home near Geneva, Tuesday morning, May 16, 1944. Just prior to her passing, she was apparently enjoying her usual good health, had eaten breakfast and was engaged in active work. The suddenness of her passing has been a great shock both to her family and to her friends. Miss Orpha Shackleford was born near Geneva, Neb., September 27, 1874. On May 20, 1896, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Fox, and the young couple made their first home on a farm near Ohiowa, Neb. In the spring of 1918 they moved to their farm home northwest of Geneva, where they had lived since that time. Two daughters were born to this union, Grace and Ruth, both of whom are still living. It was through the loss of the wife and mother that the sorrow of death first entered their home, after nearly forty-eight years of unbroken happiness. For more than a quarter of a century, Mrs. Fox had been an active member of the first Methodist church of Geneva. She was highly respected and well-spoken of. She was a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend and neighbor, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband and daughters, two brothers, Jason D.of Geneva, and Franklin T. of Minneapolis, Minn., all of whom were present at the funeral services, besides other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held in the Kritner funeral home in Geneva Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. W. B. Pardun, pastor of the First Methodist church officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal May 25, 1944. page 1.
