Orville Peck died at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson County Hospital of cancer. He had been ill for the past two years and seriously ill the past six months. He was transferred from Mercy Hospital in Iowa City to the Jefferson County Hospital Dec. 14. He was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Fairfield, the son of Thomas and Frieda Giese Peck. He lived his entire life in the Fairfield area, graduating from the Fairfield High School in 2954. The family home is at 709 S. Fourth. He was employed at Shriner and Johnson Drug Store, later Johnson and Peasley, for many years. He owned and operated the Peck Tavern and restaurant in Libertyville since 1967. Peck was married to Ruth Ward Dec. 28, 1967, in Lomax, Ill. He was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church of Germanville, Eagles Lodge, VFW and Walton Club. Survivors include his widow, two children, Joyce Ward, Fairfield, and David Ward, Montezuma; six grandchildren, a brother, Harold Peck, Fairfield; and a sister, Marilyn Smith, Gallipolis, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends at the Joyce Ward residence, 702 S. Second, this evening from 7 to 8 p.m.
