Housley A retired bricklayer, Orville Lester Housley, 12 Sylvan St., died Sunday afternoon at Newman Hospital. He was a lifetime resident, and he had worked for various contractors here for more than 50 years before retiring in 1968, He was a member of the First Christian Church, Union Lodge 15 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Emporia Rebekah Lodge, the Encampment of I.O.O.F., Emporia Lodge 12, A.F. and A.M. and the Grand Old Pals Club. For more than 50 years, he was a member of the local bricklayers' union. He was a former member and past president of American War Dads. The son of Robert and Laura Shuck Housley, he was born Feb. 16, 1903, in Emporia. He married Mary E. Porter on Dec. 30, 1925, at Cottonwood Falls, and she died May 2, 1983. Survivors include a son, Orville. L. Housley Jr., Lee's Summit, Mo., a daughter, Mary M. Schaefer, 1109 Luther St., five grandchildren, Phillip and Alan Housley, Charles and Jay Schaefer and Marilyn J. Moser, and one great-grandchild. Two sons, Richard and Donald Housley, three sisters and two brothers died earlier. A service in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel will be held Wednesday at 1:30 PM, conducted by the Rev. Ron C. Carter of the Flint Hills Christian Church. A service also will be held by members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. Memorial contributions for the First Christian Church or the Flint Hills Christian Church may be sent in care if the funeral home. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
