Orville had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford since July of 2003. He was born on February 14, 1915 in Hamilton County, Stratford, Iowa the son of Hildur and Agnes (Erickson) Anderson. On September 22, 1945, Orville married Elizabeth Elgar in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and the Marion Center Farm became their home for Elaine, Stephen, Muriel, Janice and Norma. Orville attended rural school, Marion #4 and graduated from Stratford Consolidated School in 1932. He worked in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming in the summers of 1936 and 1937. Orville began farming the home place with the help of his Uncle Edd in 1938. Orville enjoyed his years of farming along with being a fan to many sporting events played by his children. He also liked to play cards, fish and being a Grandpa. Orville was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Board and was involved in many church activities. He also served on the Stratford School Board for many years. His parents, two sisters, Marguerite and baby girl Anderson, and one brother, Hilden preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Betty of Stratford, Iowa, one son, Stephen of Stratford, four daughters, Elaine Lore and her husband Charles of Decorah, Iowa, Muriel Steffen and her husband Jay of Ames, Iowa, Janice Coon and her husband Jim of Bishop, Georgia, and Norma Yates of Carlisle, Iowa, 12 grandchildren and two sisters, Audrey Olson and Lucille Larson Quick both of Stratford, Iowa. Services were held on Tuesday afternoon, December 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford, Iowa with Pastor Joseph A. Lambert officiating. Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa. Friends could call the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until 12 noon when the casket was taken to the church where visitations continued from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. The family was present at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the Stratford Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall Addition Building Fund. The Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
